Reason
The Government of Mongolia decided to broaden the responsibility of the customs authority by adding function of specialized inspection at borders in its functions. In this regard, the Department of Border Specialized Inspection of the General Agency for the Specialized Inspection has been transferred to Mongolian Customs General Administration since 1 January 2022. Thus, it is necessary to update and harmonize the domestic law on cross border trade and strengthen the capacity of the customs authority in this regard.

Assistance required for implementation - Support in amending the legislation to incorporate a specific provision on national and international border agency cooperation (new law was revoked).
- Support and preparation for the organized quarterly meetings with China and Russia.
- Support for regular integrated meetings with neighbouring countries (develop joint integrated coordination mechanism between national border agencies (customs, GASI, veterinary and immigration)).
- Support in establishing exchange of data.
