Reason
Additional space is needed at the air cargo facility to facilitate e-commerce. There is an unexpected delay in reallocating courier and post operations to facilitate reduced release time for postal and courier goods. Hence, Maldives need additional time to configure the systems to introduce a simplified declaration. Maldives requests an extension to implement this Article by 31 December 2026.

Reason
There is a delay in moving to the new cargo facility arrangements at the Velana International Airport, hence a delay in the implementation of this Article. The expected date to move to the new Cargo Facility at Velana International Airport is at the end of 2021. Expected date for the establishment and implementation of Courier Facility at Velana International Airport is from 2022 to 2023. The approval of proposed amendments to the Customs General Regulation to introduce a security/guarantee system is expected to be in the year 2021. Introduction of Authorized Economic Operators (AEO) is expected to be in the year 2021.
